This capital requirement for brokerages also rises as the market volatility increases. This is to prevent the brokerage from going insolvent. However, this is an unprecedented level of volatility and this has led to the 250% increase in capital requirements that we mentioned earlier.
To be able to manage this requirement and ensure you can seamlessly buy and sell stocks of the tens of thousands of other companies listed in the U.S. markets, these companies had to be temporarily restricted to liquidation only.
