Good Investing Behaviour

  • You’re not going to get rich on one-off investments. Investing is like eating, you have to do it consistently. The most important thing you can do is set aside money every month and invest it in a platform like Bamboo.
  • Don’t try to time the market. You cannot predict the future and if you think you know what’s going to happen, you’ll probably be wrong

The Future is Interesting

  • Invest for the future, not the past. Think of the companies fixing problems for the future.
  • Fixing climate change is the future, companies working on solar power, electric vehicles etc will be interesting.
  • Ross Gerber is a big investor in Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) He believes it is the most advanced and innovative company in the world and he’s been an investor for 8 years. He believes a lot of electric vehicle companies around will go out of business but Tesla is here to stay.
  • Ross owns the solar ETF NYSE: TAN because he’s also a big believer in solar and battery.
  • He is also a big investor in Activision (NASDAQ: ATVI).
  • The pandemic has shown that as an investor you have to be looking at healthcare, health tech and biotechnology industries. He invests in them through the ETFs NYSE: IHI, NYSE: IBB. He believes governments are going to spend a trillion dollars in the next couple of years.
  • Ross is very bullish on cannabis. He believes cannabis is the next alcohol or tobacco. ETFs like NYSE:MJ, Innovative industrial properties NYSE: IIPR
  • Ross is not a fan of Virgin Galactic (NYSE: SPCE). He says there’s no proof that the space plane works and if people won’t get on a plane right now, why will they get on a spaceplane. He thinks it’s a stupid idea.

Gold >>>> Cash

  • Ross is very bullish on gold. He holds a lot more positions in gold ETFs (such as IAU, GLD) than he does in cash.
  • Ross is not a fan of putting your money in banks because if the interest rate is 2% and the value of the Naria is losing value at 10%, you are throwing your money away. Because of inflation so he’s very big on gold etfs.

Big Tech is a Lifestyle

Toss or Keep

  • Tesla – keep
  • Bank of America – toss (He doesn’t invest in banks but it’s the best bank stock to own alongside JP Morgan)
  • Kodak – toss (He says to sell as soon as possible if you own it)
  • Expedia – keep
  • MGM – keep
  • Disney – keep
  • New York Times – toss
  • Peloton – keep (He believes Peloton is the Apple of fitness.)
  • Nikola – toss (He prefers Tesla or Rivian)
  • Wayfair – toss (He thinks they’re doing very well but he doesn’t like retail)

If you could only hold

5 stocks to hold forever

  • Apple
  • Disney (Ross has owned it his entire life. He thinks Disney+ is great and will be a game-changer).
  • Tesla (He may sell profits from time to time but he plans to hold it forever)
  • Microsoft
  • Amazon

For one year

  • MGM (He thinks inthe next year you want to buy things that recover from covid)
  • Disney
  • Starbucks

“Sitting” Under The Bamboo tree on Thursday 20th August was full of “Aha Moments” for me. Many thanks to Ross for sharing his wealth of experience and to Yanmo and the Bamboo team. I have literarily kept those tips on stocks to look out for in my “investment toolbox”
